Ode to Ice Cream

Fudge swirl, vanilla bean, and cherry.
Cookies n’ cream or a little strawberry?
Do you like rocky road?*
Why not try a la mode?

Peanut butter, cookie dough and Superman? Cotton candy or just a few bites of butter pecan? Do you like mint chocolate chip?
Why not try a chocolate dip?

A banana split is a special treat,
But don’t drop a peel near your feet.
You’d slip and the ice cream would splat.
You wouldn’t be very happy about that.

A milkshake is a lot of fun.
Why not have another one?
Well, because you’ve been known
to take a few licks from a waffle cone.

Neopolitan, toffee, birthday cake?
Orange, grape, or that second chocolate shake? Do you like caramel delight?
You must eat ice cream every night.

Fudge or fruit or Oreos?
Sprinkles, nuts, or dookie dough?
How about a little whipped cream?
You must see toppings in your dreams.

Coffee, green tea, or a scoop of mango,
Cotton candy or some spicy Jalapeño?
Now tell me, do you like tutti fruitti?
Because ice cream is a thing of beauty.

*This poem is kid-tested, and mother approved because, well, Mom does like a delicious scoop of rocky road.
