My Office Sonnets
My Office Sonnets
My office sonnets are little poems I write
when there’s no one else around.
I type. I jot it all down,
trying to get the words right,
trying not to let anyone discover
the poems I'm scribbling here.
On pads and on paper,
and in tabs on a computer screen.
I may have more ideas than rhymes,
but I suppose it could be worse.
Because sonnets are just little poems I pen
when no one else is near.
I worry, and I fret,
trying to choose the right word.
Trying not to be bothered,
sipping cold coffee and eating a hot lunch.
Pondering rhymes with time
that should be spent elsewhere.
My office sonnets are little poems I type
when life has become boring,
and I'm waiting for it to be five o'clock somewhere, all the while wondering
if anyone in these cubicles knows
I compose verses like Shakespeare.
